McAuley House

Named after the founder of the Sisters of Mercy order,Catherine McAuley, McAuley House was established because research clearly shows that love and support from family and friends are vital ingredients in helping patients recuperate and recover while they are in hospital.

McAuley House consists of 8 motel style accommodation units and is conveniently located within the grounds of the Mackay Mater Hospital. Making life easier for both patients and their families throughout the Mackay region, the units provide motel style accommodation for:

  • Relatives or carers of Mackay Mater Hospital inpatients
  • Patients discharged from the Mackay Mater Hospital who need to remain close to the hospital for follow up care
  • Out of town residents who are patients or receiving treatment at the Mackay Mater Hospital

FACILITIES

McAuley House consists of 8 independent self contained units. There are 2 family units that accommodate up to 6 people. The remaining 6 units accommodate up to 3 people.

The units include rooms for the disabled and all have an ensuite, rear patio, microwave, toaster, tea/coffee facilities, small bar fridge, washing machine and dryer, television, telephone and air-conditioning. There is no cook top for cooking; however families are welcome to use the Mater Hospital Canteen and Mater Coffee Shop. Housekeeping services are also available to provide a daily room service and linen service.

BOOKINGS

Accommodation can be booked by telephoning the Mackay Mater Hospital on 49655455. Because McAuley House is so convenient the units are generally heavily booked therefore bookings are essential. Consideration is given to families from out of town or in special need.

Bookings can be made in advance but must be confirmed 2 days prior to the stay. If the accommodation is no longer required please notify us as soon as possible so other families in need can be accommodated timely.

COST

An accommodation charge is applicable to assist us with the cost of running McAuley House. To find out more about the charges, please contact 49655455. Some persons may be eligible for financial assistance from The Department of Veteran’s Affairs or Queensland Health’s Patient Travel Subsidy Scheme(you will need to contact your nearest public hospital for information).Some health insurance funds may also provide assistance.
