Bundaberg

Bundaberg city has a population of 45,000 and encompassing the surrounding region, this grows to 70,000. Bargara, a popular seaside resort just a ten minute drive from the CBD is just one of the many beaches which provides safe swimming all year round. For visitors eager to explore the Great Barrier Reef, day trips and overnight stays depart from Bundaberg.

The largest Loggerhead turtle rockery in the Southern Hemisphere is located at Mon Repos, just near Bundaberg. Nightly guided tours are operated by the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service to see these ancient mariners during their nesting and hatching season - extending from November until the end of March. Humpback Whales can be seen migrating from August until November and this area has an abundance of birdlife year round.

Bundaberg has many tourist attractions to offer including Bert Hinkler's house which was moved from England, and rebuilt brick by brick. Bert Hinkler made his glider flights in the Bundaberg area. Bundaberg is also home to the famous Bundaberg Rum and tours of the distillery are very interesting and informative.

Bundaberg is a very progressive city and new industries are springing up all the time, like a new regional wine trail. Also, 5 golf courses are located just 15 minutes drive from the city centre.

Climate

Bundaberg has a very pleasant climate with a temperature range from 11 to 30 degrees, making it a very comfortable climate all year round. The annual rainfall is 1140 mms.

Industry

The major industries of Bundaberg are comprised from Sugarcane which is the major industry. In addition local farms produce aloe vera, macadamia nuts, flowers, avocados and small crops. Heavier industry includes distilling and machinery manufacturing, metal casting, light aircraft manufacturing. Being located on the coast, Bundaberg is an ideal holiday destination with good fishing and great restaurants and bars.
