Organisation Overview

Congregation Leadership Team

The Rockhampton Congregation of the Sisters of Mercy, a members Congregation of the Institute of Sisters of Mercy of Australia, has responsibility within the Catholic Church for the Ministries run by Mercy Health and Aged Care Central Queensland. The Congregation is led by a Congregation Leader and four other Sisters who are elected to work with her in leadership and management. Together they form the Leadership Team.

In 2001 the Congregation's Leadership Team of the time decided to put in place an Incorporated Company to take over from the existing Board of Management the future leadership and administration of its Health and Aged Care Ministries. The wisdom of this decision has been amply demonstrated in the way in which these Ministries have continued to grow and flourish since 2001. Within the Company, the Sisters on the Leadership Team act as Company Members. They can invite other members of the Congregation to join them in carrying out this role.

The responsibilities of the Company Members (Leadership Team and possibly others) is to ensure the Catholic authenticity of the Ministries and to see that the Church Property, owned by the Congregation is used appropriately. The Leadership Team is working with the leaders of the other Mercy Congregations in Queensland to put in place structures to which they hand over these responsibilities in the future.
